Ethan and I have been chewing on the whole Rosie ordeal this week. We heard that Rosie said radical Christians are just as threatening as radical Islams. Obviously, many in the Christian community are very upset about what she said and that ABC "allowed" it.
Have you read about the groups of Christians that picket and scream at the ports of the gay and lesbian cruises that Rosie promotes? These groups of angry Christians scream and threaten these people while they are on vacation. That IS just as threatening as radical Islam. If I was on the gay cruise I would hope that security took the same measures to prevent acts of hate crime from these "Christians" just as we do at our airports. I'm NOT at all saying that Rosie's responses on ABC are correct, however it isn't hard to see things from the other side when Christianity is presented in such a threatening way.
What are Christians more upset about? That we are compared to the Muslims or that there are groups of "Christians" that makings us look threatening are more upset that a gay democrat says that about our group than we are at the Christians who misrepresent the gospel and Christ. http://www.godhatesfags.com/

Anyway, Rosie does say some radical things and I disagree with some of her choices, however I think as Christians we need to stop being so obsessed with Christianity and focus on what it means to be a follower of Christ. The easiest question to ask and to answer is "How did Jesus react to these people." He did not condemn.
Rosie doesn't live a life I completely agree with, however she also pours a lot of time and money into charity and helping others. We can get angry at her comment and respond with hate and anger. We can go to church on Sunday and gripe about it to each other and then get back in our kooshy cars and drive back to suburbia and live the next six days focused on American Idol and Lost. But it should be Christians who are being obedient and poring their time and money into Aids and hunger funds that seek to eliminate world hunger. (And some do ...)
Unfortunately because of the biased media coverage, non-Christians see Rosie's good deeds and as a loving mother of 4 and then they see Christians screaming and committing hate crimes. If I was\'t a Christian, I would be afraid of Christianity as well.
Anyway, hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We got to see a few friends from Joplin and had a great time. It was very refreshing. Ethan was able to speak with one of our friends who's been a youth minister for almost three years. He was very encouraged and enlightened. :o)
